Today, my dad came to my graduate art show wearing a t-shirt saying "My other daughter is a science major". He'd had it specially made. FML

Get one that says "My other dad is less of an asshole". and wear it everywhere with him.

Art is very hit or miss. She COULD be rich and famous.. Or she could end up working in retail or fastfood to make ends meet. Science almost always guarantees you a job.

OPs dad has a great sense of humor. That's efing awesome!

Not everyone has a science-oriented "left brain"-- just like not everyone has a creative-oriented "right brain." Someone can be talented in either field. It's too bad that your father doesn't see that he has TWO very talented daughters. Be proud of your talent!

Oddly, I believe her dad is a right brained person himself. That joke in a t-shirt is hilarious, especially considering the setting.

yeah but it could be taken two different ways... depends on his opinion about it

I thought creative people where considered left brained and logic based brains are considered right brained. that is how I have always heard it as, It's possible I'm mistaken.

I don't think he has another daughter. It sounds like the shirt was akin to a "My other car is a..." Bumper sticker.

You should make a T-shirt that says, "This man is a pedophile beware" with his picture on it and the cop's number below.

Then the next FML would be "Today, my dad hot arrested because I advertised that he was a pedophile. FML"

I don't understand, If the OP is from the UK, how can his sister be a science major, if we don't follow that system? Wouldn't she just be an outright science student?

Maybe she is studying in America

Screw him, OP. do what you like. He was probably kidding, but nevertheless.. Do art and be happy.. Or hate your life with a job in science. I just hope you're a good artist, otherwise you'll have a real hard time making money.

I second that! I'm majoring in science right now and my passion is photography so im switching, **** the money I'll do something that'll make me happy :)

Your dads out of touch. You'll make more money as an artist these days than a scientist. Games, graphic design, web content, corporate storyboarding, animation, etc. Scientists make crap money.

Electrical engineer, 75k to start. Did you think art majors designed all of the technology that digital art is created on? Even the best paid of game designers barely make that, and usually have to live in high cost areas for work.

Who cares about money? I say as long as you make enough to get by and be at least somewhat comfortable and (most important of all), screw the money. As long as you're doing what you love...

CSRozell 4

I started to do engineering but found it was ******* lame now I do art **** your money :)

TheDrifter 23

I say **** ramen noodles and public transit, I'll live in the artist vilified corporate world.

In general, that statement is incorrect. Scientists and engineers are a commodity in high demand because virtually every industry relies on technology in some fashion or another. Art, on the other hand, is a luxury with fewer practical applications than science. The disparities in the salaries of artists and scientists is deterministic of supply and demand for services and goods.

if you make kajillions woudn't you be a kajillionaire?

That's awesome! Oh, and: Science >> Art.
