Today, my dad decided that the best way to alleviate my crippling depression is to talk to me in a baby voice. FML

At least he is trying to help. There are far too many parents out there who don't care at all.

Everyone tries to help out in different ways, some people don't know how to deal with certain situations and maybe that's just his attempt at trying to help. Just let him know that's not the way to do it and I'm sure he'll understand and stop.

when I fall into a slump, it's hard to come out of it. getting out the house really helps. with friends or just by yourself. it doesn't have to be the mall or whatever. I've started on this bike trail through the woods. enough people I pass by who walk their dogs or ride bikes with kids, but I only pass by someone every 7 to 10 minutes. it is so peaceful and just getting some fresh air can make a huge difference :)

Everyone is saying maybe he doesn't know how else to help OP but maybe his dad is just purposely being a dick to him, like mocking him as if he's being a baby by saying he depressed. I got treated like that before OP, chin up. :)

When my dad found out I had depression he wouldn't really talk to me. He avoided me. so the only parent I had, had abandoned me basically. we always would beat around the bush. so..If you don't like your dad talking to you in a baby voice, tell him. Then, tell him how you would like to be treated. :)

Oh my gosh, that's awful. I'm so sorry. I hope you can get some helpful help soon, if you haven't already

I bet his sillyness makes you smile.

Nice of him to try to help, but that's definitely not the right method =/ Hope you can get cured soon OP.

I'm sorry your father is adding insult to injury. When I feel bad, my partner makes dumb jokes that irritate me. The best way to deal I found was to tell her to cut it out. She then does it again on a different day, but I just remind her to cut it out. If your father keeps it up/ won't listen, then just try going to your room or getting out.

Well your depression is only as crippling as you make it. I was diagnosed as bipolar in 2010 and one day I decided to shut my mouth and get over it. It's not easy but it can be done.
