If he kept it I doubt he'd be able to cash it if it has your name on it. If he really did "accidentally" throw it away I'd be "accidentally" making his ass dig through the trash and find it.

Definitely call the IRS! You can get that check cancelled and another check sent. Don't worry too much, just call!

Call the IRS and tell them the check is lost. They'll send another. And if they tell you it has been deposited already, then ask them to investigate. Nothing says "not funny" like police at the door...

Call the IRS and tell them what happened. They can void the first check and issue you another. I've had it happen to me. No where near the same circumstances but they will do it.
