That's the same reason my dad gave for not being able to come to my grad. Except he actually did have to work... Anyway, FYL, OP. Especially if you really wanted him there and he just couldn't be bothered.

or he might be depressed and - not think himself worthy to be there; - horrified at the humiliation he would experience with all the other employed parents being there; - humiliated by not being able to offer you a graduation present; - etc.
