I got that talk too, when I was 12. Welcome to a lifetime of trust and abandonment issues. Hope you find your way to God and/or a counselor if you haven't already. :(
I feel like his parents might be getting divorced so the dad now felt the need to let his "child" know that he isn't his dad. Sad;/
