Hi! It's the OP. The blister formed earlier in the day because of a new pair of running shoes I was breaking in. The blister didn't seem too bad, but it got filled up as the day progressed. As I got into the car, it burst. I never let on because my shoes were not open-toes. The date was great, we went to Pizza Hut, but I got tomato sauce on my outfit. I'm a klutz FML This was in 1990. I was too nervous to run back up to my barracks and do something about the blister. I was 19 at the time.

You should probably go to the doctor and get that checked out. Blisters have clear fluid in them, not puss. Puss comes around when things are infected. Go to the doctor ASAP. Btw I hope your date still went well regardless of the circumstances. I wish you the best of luck.
That must have been a huge blister (I'm implying that it would be bigger than your foot or you have a tiny foot) for your foot to be "swimming in a pool of hot, liquid pus." As uncomfortable as this may have felt, your date probably had no idea a blister had burst. Unless it was visible via your shoes (again, how would your foot be swimming?)
You could've excused yourself saying you forgot something inside and changed socks, shoes, or anything else. You were still in front of your place weren't you?
I should really stop reading FMLs while eating breakfast.
Are your shoes okay?
At last, someone asks the real question!

If it was just as you were getting into the car, couldn't you have explained the situation and ran into the house for a bandage or something?
what happened after that?
