Today, my estranged, alcoholic father decided to tell me I have a sister. After 30 mins of him describing how beautiful she is and how much we look alike and how she has lived one town away from me her entire life, I was excited to the point of tears. Too bad she died a year ago. Thanks dad. FML

Ouch. I wonder why he'd even bring it up. That's just going to hurt, rather than help in any way..

Wow! That sucks. You should go into detail about how you just found out that your pregnant, how excited you are that he's going to be a grandfather and then tell him you aborted it. That'll make you about even.

I'm so sorry for you. What your dad did was just mean and pointless.

Dumb bitch, you deserved it. I mean, seriously, you have no excuse to miss her. You never once asked if you had a sister anyway. This isn't an FML, just a sad excuse for a made up story. I feel sorry for your dad, who has to live someone as ignorant as you. No wonder he drinks. Once again, you derserved it.

Your Dad is an idiot, he deserve a DUI and jail time. How can you do such a thing to your OWN child? FYL, and F you're deceased sister's life.

Uhm... I'm not sure he deserves a DUI in this case, really. I don't recall anyone saying he was driving at the time.

#29 her sister was a part of her and once she got excited about knowing about her sister, she wanted to meet her then her dad says she's dead! your an ignorant piece of shit for saying that!

The same thing sort of happened to me. My dad told me a while ago that I had a brother. I have no clue where my brother is, or if the name my dad thinks is his name is actually his name. Then, my dad passed away a couple of years after that. I will never know my brother.

When I read this, I was like sad. How in the hell does she deserve this? Humanity these days.

i can compensate with you : i had hidden uncles / cousins for 18 years. how did i know them? Facebook, FML

Not as bad as a sister who lives really close to you. A sibling relationship can be very rewarding and is often deeper than relationships with cousins or uncles. At least you managed to find out about your relatives before they died, and no one built up your excitement about them and then told you they were dead.

PS "Compensate" is probably not the right word, unless you're going to give her money for the loss of her relationship with her sister. You're likely thinking about the words "empathize" or "sympathize".
