As a surprise pet, that wasn't the best idea- but you might be able to work with this. I have arachnophobia myself, but one day I was in a pet store and the Chilean Rose tarantula they had was scary yet intriguing to me. She seemed quite personable though, so in an odd streak of bravery I took her home. I only let her crawl on me once and she was very sweet- she let me pet her in her tank a lot and she was actually softer than my cat! Most tarantulas will rear up on their hind legs as a first line of defense, and flick off irritating hairs as their second defense. Shags only reared up at me once when I surprised her when cleaning the tank. Otherwise, she was very docile. She and my cat were also quite fond of each other- Shags was kept safely inside the tank, of course, as either pet could have been deadly to the other. I still hate the terrifying Woodlouse spiders in my basement, but bonding with Shags gave me the mindset of "my spider could kick your ass!". Now, I can actually squish the scary spiders instead of wondering where they went and if they'll attempt to eat my face while I sleep. (To any tree huggers, this was necessary at the time due to a small infestation). Arachnophobia needs to be dealt with on your own terms; but if it's a docile species and your girlfriend is willing to pet the tarantula, that should help gauge its reaction to human contact. If all goes well, consider befriending the little dude at your own pace. You could be pleasantly surprised. And if not... please return it to the pet store. Someone else could give it a great home! Best of luck, OP :)
Same thing happened with me and cockroaches. I was terrified of them until I convinced myself to get over it by buying a pet hissing cockroach. Now I'm an exterminator. No lie.
Time to burn the house down and move far, far away.
Man up ahaha
Eeewwwww that's not a pet! I'll admit its furry but that's creepy
Aww sweet to still want to keep it!! Just remember that was given to you with love and care Lol
well, the only solution left is killing it with fire bruh.
Why isn't it contained in a tank orbcage?
Cool at least you know that she is not afraid of spiders, maybe you could ask her to help you Capture it

I would thank her for that and kindly mention your fear of spiders, and ask to get another pet together.
Blah, that is not a good pet
