You asked her fathers permission to marry her? Before you even asked her? You deserved to have been dumped you sexist pig.... Newsflash for ya: Women are able to make their own decisions and choices in life. Maybe you should take that into consideration before you get a new gf. No wonder she left you. No one in their right mind would have stayed after what you did.
Actually most people would stay with a guy if he did that.
You engage in an action that shows you don't think your gf is worth jacksquat and then you come on FML to complain about the fact she dumped you. What the hell did you think would happen when you showed her she was just another object to you? There is a reason this tradition went out the window when women were granted equal rights.
Right on 35. If the man can't even show respect for you and your family while he's trying to propose for you, the only sensible thing to do is dump his ass and as fast as you possibly can. At least this girl got woken up to what a dick the OP was before the marriage, though there had to be signs of his disrespect for her as person before this
Does she belong to one of those religions that dictate a women must always be obedient to her father and husband, regardless of what she personally feels? because if not you brought this dumping on yourself by asking her father's permission. Kind of hard to cut your girlfriend any deeper than that
My ex-fiance asked my parents' permission to marry me, and I thought it was really sweet of him. I was actually hoping at the time that he would ask their permission, to show respect for us as an entire family. Of course, it would have been nice if our engagement had lasted too. He just wasted our time by getting the permission and dumping me a few months later. I'm sorry, OP. You'll be happier with someone else, even if it doesn't seem like it right now. Just keep your head up.
show her the ring you'll never give her. that's the best revenge.
44 how is being repectful to the GF's family being a dick? Its not like the father decided the girl was going to marry him or not. He was asking for the fathers approval of himself. So the father can decide if the man is worthy enough for his daughters hand in marriage. Obviously the OP is a gentleman, and the girl was a ho bag.
stoopid feminists how about you get off your ******* rants and realize that he was not trying to buy her because im pretty sure she could have said no...idiots.
and 42 you make assumptions way to fast. You should read up on asking for a womans hand in marriage before you go assuming what it is, and assuming things about the OP.

Oh poor thing I'm sorry. But at least you knew how she felt before you actually proposed.
At least this happened instead of her cheating on you with this guy down the road, leading to a long and painful divorce.
