Today, my girlfriend heard a great quote about not letting anyone drag her down. She took it to mean, "break up with your boyfriend." FML

GoldCyclone tells us more.

To clear things up, I have been in love with her for 3 years, and we've been dating for 2 and a half. She's always seemed happy, and said that she wouldn't date someone she didn't have feelings for, which is why this came as such a shock to me.

maybe you do bring her down. when I first got with my bf he was like sunshine. then he changed and got super needy and depressing. he never wanted to have fun and ruined any fun I had by making me feel guilty in a passive way. I chose to have an honest convo with him and its def not like that anymore. but I don't think we can hold anything against OPs gf for trying to make her life better. if it's better without him then good for her. he should also be honest with himself and maybe find someone better suited to him.

The quote may seem frivolous but it may have been the motivation she needed to leave you. It sucks if she genuinely didn't appreciate you, but maybe you should examine yourself and see if she's right

Well, even if you are a great person you may not be compatible and trying to maintain the relationship was dragging her down. I'm sure you'll both move on to find someone else more suitable.

and I take it to mean, she's a bitch

We don't know anything about OP's relationship with his girlfriend. To everyone saying she is a bitch.. Would you rather her stay in a relationship that makes her unhappy? To jump to the conclusion that she is a bitch, simply because she found motivation in a quote to do what she has probably been wanting to do for a while is just harsh.

I'm sorry. Anyone who breaks up with you for a reason like that, you deserve better and I hope you find it. If you saw my comment from earlier too I apologize. It was out of line. I sincerely hope it all turns out alright for you.

You are better off if she is a dingbat to think (and I use the word think loosely here) that something like that is construed as break up with your boyfriend.

apparently she felt you were dragging her down. Dont feel bad. Is her loss and someone elses gain
