"girlfriend"
This had actually happened to me in high school. I asked out my bestfriend, a female, and she said yes. A couple days later, she told me she thought I was kidding... I'm a female also, so I guess she really didn't think I was bisexual. Most awkward relationship ever.
This is highly situational. Either she is being a cold-hearted witch or you're a creepy stalker... or a kid who thinks one date means dating.
I'm assuming then there was no actual dates? agreed in dates and not misinterpreted hanging out?
well, thats happened to me. a guy asked me out in highschool. I said yes but he got shy. so he ignored me for 6 mths. But he kept bragging to his friends he had a gf. haha
Something similar happened with my now boyfriend. When he first asked me out, I thought he ment it in a rhetorical way, like 'if I ever did ask you out would you say yes' since we were just friends at that stage. It wasn't till a few weeks later that I found out that he did think we were dating. Turns out that was his way of asking me out.
Don't feel too bad, OP. My mom's ex-boyfriend proposed to her two years after they had broken up and a month before she moved in with another man.
Me
Well she's probably not your girlfriend then

well, that's a slight miscommunication.
Happend the other way around to me, this guy thinking we were together. Don't know which is worse... Life lesson learned: always ask someone to be your boyfriend/girlfriend and don't just assume you are in a relationship. Communication is quite important, as it seems.
