Today, my girlfriend told me that she is pregnant. I asked how it could be possible, since she's on birth control. She said she didn't know her antibiotics would interfere with it. She's a pharmacist. FML

Just because she's a pharmacist, doesn't means she's a good one.

Or or or she just wanted to get pregnant?

Birth control isn't 100% effective either. YDI

... shes a pharmacist.. she knows exactly what can interfere with her birthcontrol ... simply pop that antibiotic .. boom preggers she probly constantly asked you for sex. not the other way around.. to get herself knocked up

You're an idiot to believe that taking birth control means absolutely no babies. It is only 98% effective so there's a chance she could've still gotten pregnant without the antibiotics ******* it up

exactly, and that 98% is only with PERFECT use, which is very rarely ever the case. near-perfect use (much more likely) is only about 80% or so effective at best.

... Well I hope everyone realizes birth control doesn't always work. So no matter what, there was a chance of pregnancy.. So.. Ya know.

The bar in the arm is actually the trustiest one. The pill has a high chance of failing especially without a condom. It may have been carelessness on both their part.

Mazel Tov!!! If your love isn't conniving, she may have heard that, in school etc, and just forgot it. Sometimes the bad things are good.

I'm in my 3rd year of pharmacy school and I know that certain antibiotics can reduce the efficacy of birth control. Although honestly, birth control alone should not be used -- you should use other methods to be more sure, like condoms or timing of cycle, etc.

Even then doesn't matter birth control isn't 100% any way. She could be pregnant from either.

as just a pharmacy tech....I know that and tell female customers that fact when picking up any antibiotic - if she, as a pharmacist, did not then she needs some additional Schooling! another common interaction if grapefruit juice decrease the effectiveness of cholesterol meds (statins). maybe let her know!
