um... yeah, my old hamster had 9 babies we didn't touch them, let them be about a week later we discovered the only thing left was the head of one baby the rest were... well, you can guess.
Oddly, I found the OP's name more funny...
Baw, I bought a pregnant hamster accidentally, she had eleven babies. In the end, there were only 7, even though she had a really good diet. They kind of eat some regardlessly.
:( Aww that's terrible!!!
The story about animal parents abandoning/eating their young because they were touched by a human is hogwash. That said, they'll eat or abandon their offspring for all sorts of reasons that we don't generally know about. Because they're animals and hamsters are a little crazy.
#27 you are a f***ing @**hole! Animals deserve just as much respect as humans. Obviously they deserve more respect than you do. Also, hamsters eat their young for all sorts of reasons- its just what they do. They tend to eat the newborns that are stillborn or ill. The one that was eaten was probably not as healthy as the others and that is why it was consumed. It is actually a totally normal thing for them to do and its more uncommon to have a litter of completely healthy babies where no one gets eaten, especially if this isn't the hamster's first litter. Almost every single female hamster born in a pet store is guarenteed to have been pregnant more than once already before they are sold. Hamsters also eat their babies if they have a protein deficiency, feel that there wont be enough food to go around for all of the pups, or even if they're just plain old stressed out. Ture, SOME species of hamsters are more sensitive and fussy than others, but for the most part, it is a MYTH that touch a newborn will force a mother to reject it. Sure, if you're picking it up and handeling it and such, it will become stressed out all to easily, causing the mother to see that its not doing well and then will most likely eat it because of that; but just slightly touching a hamster to "pet" it wouldn't cause that. Its always a good idea to leave them alone for at least a few days or a week, but this hamster was most likely eaten for another reason.
also, **** #68 and anyone else who posted that they are somehow above other creatures. **** you! you think your shit stinks less than theirs??
Cute? newborn hamsters look like chewed gum!
It's just one little hamster.

Today I was born, and this strange creature towered over my mother and my siblings, and touched one of my siblings. Later my mother decided to eat the sibling that the creature touched. Now I am terrified of being petted. FML
I'm sorry to hear that. I honestly didn't know that fact either. I don't blame you because you didn't know and therefore didn't purposely do it.
