Today, my husband and I broke the news that I'm pregnant. Our 8-year-old son's reactions so far have been crying inconsolably, trying to punch me in the stomach, and swearing that he won't let me give him a brother or sister. FML

My sister was very upset when we found out we were getting a younger sister too. It'll get better when he realizes you won't abandon him for the new kid.

Wow. I really hope you're not letting him off lightly for trying to punch you in the stomach, that's scary.

Sorry OP, but 8 years is a bit long to wait to have another kid. This said, at 8, that sounds like a pretty extreme reaction. Get him to a therapist BEFORE there's any tiny human target

I understand the getting upset part but the punching you in the stomach is pretty scary. Hide the sharp objects and get him some therapy!

Um I would try to include him in some baby activities that involve him praticing to a big brother. Make it sort of like a game so he can not only look at his new sibling as fun but not be afraid he won't get any attention.

You should probably have that child tested for bipolar and schizophrenia. Like right now.

How does any of that indicate schizophrenia? Or bipolar disorder? Obviously something needs to be done about his behaviour/feelings, but there's nothing there to indicate either of those things.

You just ruined his life . I would know I'm the older child out of 3

1. Congratulations. 2. Don't take the hitting lightly, spank him. He needs to get over it

Anyone else reminded of The Omen upon reading this? It's like the kid is hoping his mother will have a miscarriage because he doesn't want a sibling. That's very scary, OP. Get that kid some help or something!
