I'm more wondering why OP wouldn't at least *pretend* do it, if it's so important to his mother. Also makes me think OP probably shot his mother down in a very rude way, to receive the silent treatment.

27, there's no non-harsh way to put this, but some mothers are stupid and/or certifiably crazy. This sounds like the same sort of shit my mom would've pulled before she got institutionalized. If you're constantly giving in to the irrational demands of someone like that, you're going to go insane yourself. It also doesn't matter how OP shut her down, the mother in a case like I described is going to think it's rude, even if it's the nicest rejection imaginable.
