Man, what a bummer! So, you blindly follow what authority figures tell you, even when you know it's wrong? You're no hippie! Question authority and never trust anyone over 30. Keep on truckin'!
But when-- "I fight authority, Authority always wins"
Well, if you sensed that you should have dressed more casually, you should have gone with that. Why would you listen to your mother, when she didn't know the details? You showed up in a hippy-style store with a full suit? That's like rubbing evetything they hippies dislike in their face, man.
Or maybe...you just weren't right for the job? Crazy right?? You had a bad interview? Anything is possible, but it's just so easy to blame your clothes and your mom.
ponchos are pretty cool.
I told my mom that I was instructed to wear casual clothes for a school performance. She didn't believe me, and made me wear a velvet dress and white stockings. Here I was, as white as hell, all dressed up, playing a slave in a Black History Month performance.
What made you assume the suit was the problem? Ever think that you just weren't a good fit? don't blame everything on someone else.
16- that says more about you than it does the potential hire.
Why didn't you just dress how you felt was appropriate instead of letting your mum control you to that extent? Grow some balls.

That is so not your fault. You did the proper thing, and what any other interviewer would want. Next time you will get the job.
Dress appropriately, you cant be draped in a sari for an interview at the hooters.
