Today, my mother machine-washed a suit I rented for a friends wedding, despite me informing her that it was dry-clean only, and that the store would take care of it. I now owe $1600 to replace the suit, and my mum is refusing to help pay, as she was "only trying to help." FML

Hello guys! OP here. Did not think it would get posted. So, to add onto the story, my friend's wedding was postponed a week because we had a little rain and he wanted an outdoor wedding. My mom usually is a pretty wonderful woman, but she is still used to cleaning up after myself and my siblings, probably because my youngest has muscular dystrophy and can't walk. We ended up sorting it out with the company, who informed us they could send us a new one. To be honest, repairing the suit would have cost less than just renting another one. Anyway, thanks for listening to the rant. Bye.

Be sure to tell your mom that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. That and to get her hearing aide checked.

I agree with the person who said you should sue her. It's a shitty thing to do to a family member, but if she's refusing to pay for making such a huge mistake, especially with something that was neither hers nor yours to mess up, then you might be forced to do that. You might not even have to go through with the lawsuit, just show her your serious enough to go through with it, and she might decide to pay for the suit she ruined.

Do you care about your credit at this point in your life? If not let it go and let them try to collect. After about 120 days or so the debt will be written off. You can later write a letter into the credit bureaus disputing the charges. If the company doesn't respond within a certain amount of time the derogatory is cleaned from your report. Just a way to do it. Honestly don't waist your time trying to sue family members it's not really worth it. Even if you win you still have to collect and that can take months and or other leagal actions. It really is a lose lose situation. Instead of wasting your time on stuff like that focus on making money at the Residual Secret

Actually smaller companies are more prone to go after you for a debt rather than writing it off. I just got sued by a place that I apparently owe $55 to.

If your mom's not a complete moron, she did that crap on purpose. NOBODY makes a mistake like that unless they're under 10 years old, or they are very stupid, or they've never had experience with laundry.

Yes. Sue your mother over a suit. Ruin a relationship over a rented suit. Do it, it's worth it. I love how no one ever makes mistakes.... She should offer to pay for it, absolutely. Maybe she's just not that bright, and made an honest mistake in trying to help her parasite, I mean child. I hope one of you get sued by your mother for some dumb shit. Seriously, no one respects their parents anymore. I know I respect mine

FYL dude ruin some clothing of hers! Revenge is always fun to plan abd carry out!

$1,600?! If it were a smaller amount I'd say you should just write it off and not leave anything remotely valuable around your dipshit of a mother, for the sake of family ties, but that is a decent amount of money and she SHOULD pay for it. Her refusal to pay for her fuckup and leave you $1,600 in the hole for something that isn't your fault says something about her, and it isn't pleasant. It's along the lines of "raging irresponsible bitch," actually.
