Aeroboss tells us more.
Hello guys! OP here. Did not think it would get posted. So, to add onto the story, my friend's wedding was postponed a week because we had a little rain and he wanted an outdoor wedding. My mom usually is a pretty wonderful woman, but she is still used to cleaning up after myself and my siblings, probably because my youngest has muscular dystrophy and can't walk. We ended up sorting it out with the company, who informed us they could send us a new one. To be honest, repairing the suit would have cost less than just renting another one. Anyway, thanks for listening to the rant. Bye.

I'd be busy making that rental company justify the expense. Most of the suit should still be usable and in good condition. The trousers/slacks and shirt would still be fine, they would just need to be pressed and possibly steamed for wrinkles. Assuming that she didn't wash the accessories like the tie or vest the only item that should need to be replaced is the jacket. $1600 is enough to buy yourself a brand new Italian suit like Canali, which is a high end brand. Check your receipts and see if a brand name was listed on there or if you know what brand it was then look it up online to see the common prices for brand new items and also for used ones. I doubt you'll find anything even close to $1600 from most rental places.
Your mother should pay that is my opinion. Anyway I really don't get you people renting some freaking expensive suits.....worne by somone else.....even if dry cleaned I dread the thought. Besides what do I show? Yey people looky I can rent suit..... but I can't buy it so be careful. If I can afford a suit costing 1600$ I will not care if someting happens to it, however my budget is around 200-300 euro for a suit, a belive you me if somthing happens to the suit, yes I will be unhappy/angry but it will not cost me 1600$!!!!!!
What a stupid old bat.
Your mom is a dumbass. You should "just try to help" her by washing her car with Scrubbing Bubbles.
Well, you're legally responsible for the suit, so you shouldn't have let her anywhere near it. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, OP. Of course, if she did it by force, you could sue. Otherwise, you're up shit creek without a paddle.
Stupid ****.
a $1600 rental suit?...I find that hard to believe. I think they're screwing you.
Actually, most rental suits are very expensive... that's why you RENT them. Nobody wants to rent a cheap $100 suit when you can go buy one. The tux my husband wore for our wedding was $4,000 designer one, but he got the insurance on it in case something happened. There was no way we could have just bought it.

she wasn't very helpful...
Be sure to tell your mom that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. That and to get her hearing aide checked.
