Today, my parents bought a new car with the money they made from selling mine. To make up for selling my car without telling me, they let me choose the make, model, and colour of the new car... which I just found out I'm not allowed to drive. FML

skittlesftw tells us more.

I'm the op (just made an account) I bought the car with my money, and since they drove the car as well they paid for some maintance and insurance. They decided to sell the car without talking to me first, but said that I would be able to drive the new car they were going to buy. Turns out the insurance would be too expensve with me on it, hence the FML. Not all bad though, they feel guilty so they are sorting me out with a car once i finish uni. (only just found this bit out)

Well, did you buy your car, or did they buy it for you?

if you're not a spoiled little kid and the car was actually yours (aka in your name, not your parents' car that they were nice enough to let you drive), go to small claims court and sue. if not, suck it up and get a job so you can buy your own car

So...parents getting a car for you, under any circumstances, means you're spoiled? I just recently bought my first car. my other car, mom and dad bought as a car I could use to go from the house to college and work without them having to drive me, more for them than for me. I had to pay for gas and insurance and any repairs, then they gave me the clunker when I graduated nursing school.

hahaha that's classic. what you do is sell their car and get one they've always wanted and just be like "yeah you can't drive my car. but you can look at it!!"

Unless they faked your signature and stuff to get the car signed into their name if it was legally yours they couldn't sell it.... if they did and you'd paid for the car to begin with then fyl.... if you hadn't paid for it but it was totally in your name and had truly been given to you then sort of fyl... if it was in their name and they'd bought it for you to drive tough luck.

your car? did you pay for your car in the place? if you did, then you can sue them... if you didn't pay for it, then it wasn't really yours in the first place...

If your name is on the title they can't sell it

if it was actually your car (all bought with your own money not your parents') then you can make it so they forcibly have to either: 1) Give you the car they just bought (good cause you chose it) 2) Buy you a new car. Have fun!

Not if OP is a minor. Technically if you're a minor, even if you pay for it yourself, you things are theirs.

did you pay for the first car ? if not then they have every right to, but if ya did, then your parents are bitches. :)
