Today, my parents made me quit a school team that I absolutely loved, because women "aren't supposed to play sports." and were worried that if I stayed on the team, I'd develop a manly physique. FML

It's cases like these where it's acceptable to stand up against your parents. I know that people around you agree, and look at these comments. Don't quit. Be yourself OP.

Use your strength to kick them both in the shins

OK, so your parents are sexist, based on how they try to enforce gender roles (also implying that women being in shape is "manly". What? Being a bit muscular is limited to men, according to your parents? Geeze.) & I can see a hint of transphobia in there (the idea that women shouldn't look manly is popular amongst transphobes. And to anyone that may say "this has nothing to do with transphobia", something CAN be transphobic without that being the intent at all.) AND your parents are trying to keep you from doing something you love. Man, that's a major FYL, OP.

I don't use Tumblr. I just HATE gender roles. I don't think that's a bad thing.

That's exactly what my parents and everyone said to me cause I do Muay Thai. Plus they said it is such a violent sport for girls but I kept doing it anyway cause I love and enjoy every minute of it.

Your parents are awful, what kind of people would make their kid quit something they love?

at least they love you enough to care about you in that regard

I'm sorry but they are ridiculous... Involvement and engagement in sport tends to keep kids out of drugs and trouble. Time to make a homemade bong and tell them they have 2 choices. You'll probably be grounded for life though... Sounds like you already are anyway though.

Don't let this happen. Women in sport is already a targeted area without pre-conceived ideas such as these lowering the numbers participating even more so!
