What if OP wasn't overweight, just extremely thin or anorexic? I think if he/she did have such an eating disorder, it wouldn't have been so innapropriate.

Being surprised doesn't always mean he's insulting you. So many people these days do feel bad about their weight even if they don't have a problem, he may have been gladly surprised. Although, even if that were the case, he still reacted badly.

Should've scrolled farther down before saying exactly what you said 0-0 and yeah he could have reacted better but come on since when has weight been a non-delicate issue? There are misunderstandings between even the most comfortable of partners, ya know? Then a shrink has to walk the line between getting someone to spill their beans for them and maintaining a professional air...

And fyi OP, if in fact your weight does happen to be an issue, you still shouldn't feel bad about it. One of the first things to losing weight is to be comfortable with yourself the way you are.

maybe he was trying to extract a positive answer from you by saying that which would make you feel better and distract you from your original problem. he might have been expecting an answer like "no, why should i?! i love my body. people tell me i have good assets and i get hit on all the time!" :). then he might have continued to tell you to keep that kind of confidence in every sphere of life. if thats not what happened, then its clearly unproffessional of him!
