Okay im just going to say this now so everyone will get this. I have my OWN bank account that no one has access too accept me. I opened it when i was like 16 and got my first job. I saved the $4000 in a separate account that was in my moms name before i was 16, which i got just from mowing lawns and stuff. So Everyone stop saying "Well your dumb, that's your fault for letting your mom have access to your account". Also im not going to get into details, but it wasn't really my sisters fault, so i don't blame her. My sister and my mom have helped me out with a lot of things too.

man that sucks >:( being the least favorite is tough :(
You didn't make her sign a contract?
Don't let your mom access your account?!?!?!
Take your mom off your account or make a new account and move your money.
Even if it was opened on her name you worked for that money she didn't she didn't have the right to take it out also it's you're own fault you could've taken your mom to the bank when you turned 18 and switched the bank account into your name
these are rough times mate
i bet your mom feels horrible
Do all American families share bank accounts? I find it weird, that parents even have access to just take out money.
I will never understand why people give their parents access to their bank account.
And I don't understand why nobody reads the other comments before posting. In #69, OP clearly stated the account (a high-interest savings) was opened when OP was a minor. As a result, an adult is required to be ON THE ACCOUNT. Yes, OP could have removed her once turning 18, but it was forgotten at the time. Even though OP posted this clarification years ago, this thread is full of people who have asked "how could she" and "how did she get access" repeatedly. Heck, if you'd hit the link indicating OP had a comment, it would have taken you right to his explanation. I find great amusement at the fact so many are using this to bag on US citizens without taking the time to read the rest of the story first. So WE'RE idiots??

dude, it is not his responsibility to pay for his sister's car. and it's awful that his mother took out his HARD EARNED money for the sister. sounds like OP didn't even get much of a say. that he had savings doesn't mean that he had "money to spare". what if he was saving for his own car?
