Uhm, I don't suspect you hadn't expected any pain.. And perhaps you should think it logically; you have to push a baby through a small but very stretchable hole. And when "it" is out, the pain wont be that serious.
Watch videos of all different kinds of birth and see what seems best for you. It will help prepare you for the pain as well. The tearing can be avoided if your doctor cuts you, it will also heal better. Ask your doctor lots of questions!! Everyone's experience is different, some do have horrible pains and some actually have orgasms, which I find weird. lol Good luck & Congrats on the baby. =)
Actually, the doctor cutting can make it much worse and is usually not medically necessary. Episiotomies can also sometimes cause WORSE tearing than if the woman had been allowed to tear naturally.
I just had a baby and yes trust me it does hurt, but it's totally worth it when you get to hold your baby in your arms.
Sweetie, I am the mother of six and have had one broken thumb. Give me the childbirth any day of the week. Pain and Sacrifice are both noble and honorable..but drugs are the key here. Get an epidural as soon as you can and enjoy your birth experience. Yes, women have indeed been giving birth the hard way all through the ages..WHY? Cause they didn't have the good drugs then. We do now. Take full advantage of them and all you will have is happy memories of your child's birth. I hope you and the baby live long and healthy lives.
You Sister is wrong...and...despite what ppl think...no, you do not NEED drugs for you, or for the unborn baby (through you getting them) during labor or delivery!
Actually, it can be harmful to the baby, in that it can make the baby so sleepy that he/she can't nurse immediately after birth, which can make nursing at all more difficult for both baby and mom.

Well, there's no turning back now.
Just take the drugs when they offer them, the epidural may hurt at first but it's so worth it
