As someone who goes to UPenn, is from Canada, and has NEVER, EVER met someone who knows what UPenn is, I absolutely feel your pain. Want to know one of THE most popular campus Facebook groups for freshmen? "Not Penn State" hehe. Next is probably "Penn Students for Bulldozing Drexel". I didn't even realize what Drexel was until I went jogging. I'm incredibly surprised that your experience went in the OTHER direction. Maybe our school is finally getting its name out there??? Though, to be fair, I did always get recognition if, instead of Penn, I said I was going to "Wharton". Doing so would piss off just about everyone at Penn who ISN'T in Wharton (i.e. all the girls) so that usually is a bad idea. To all the haters...what on earth is a man-scarf? And trust me, a conversation about Plato can be highly amusing if you're completely wasted/hung over in said cafe. Not that I'd know. I don't know shit about Plato.
"I didnt say filmed, I said it was BASED from Dartmouth." You most definitely said "based AT Dartmouth," which implies that the film was set there. None of that changes the fact that some of you Ivy Leaguers display incredibly pretentious attitudes as to where people will inevitably wind up once graduating from your respective institutions. No one is saying that Ivy League schools are a waste of money to get the same education that you could get somewhere else; however, to imply that people who go to Penn State (or any other public institution) will only wind up in middle management for the rest of their lives is complete and utter bullshit.
both are GREAT schools. I also went to UPenn, transferring out now to a state school for a major change - Penn's not the best for everyone. I've been frequently offended by the "oh, Penn State? awesome!" and had to correct with "no, Ivy, not football". ironically, now heading to a huge football school. I've noticed that the confusion is more evident on the West Coast though, average californian doesn't know Ivies at all, whereas northeast people constantly have our heads shoved into the discrimination. it's dumb that it's UPENN in the first place- only private school w/ a state in the name? i vote change to "Benjamin Franklin University".
To the OP: Have a good time at PSU, but don't act like these idiots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDiRPUiQZHc
I agree with #3, if I was her I would disown you for not getting into an Ivy League school.
I'm surprised you even got into a state school, your step mother "threw" you a party. You must have done well in english class.
this isn't a FML. who cares if you didn't get into an ivy league?? you're going to a good school. &&UPenn isn't even a well known ivy league, so who gives a flip.

At least you weren't the kid who got into UPenn and then had everyone hold him a Penn State party.
LIVE THE LIE!
