Today, my step-mother threw a surprise party on my acceptance to college. People kept telling me how delightfully shocked and happy they are for me. "UPenn" was written everywhere, when I really got into Penn State. Everyone thinks I'm going to an Ivy League. FML

Today, my mom called and told me I got accepted to my first-choice college. I got really excited and asked her to read me the letter. As she started to read it, she said, "Oops... uh, nevermind." FML

Today, I received my acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious universities in the US, as well as a nice scholarship. I was so proud of myself, I eagerly showed my dad, hoping he would shed a tear or two. His only words were, "Just get a job so you can get the hell out of my house." FML

Today, I excitedly told my mom how I got accepted to the master’s program of my dreams. She decided now would be a good time to proudly repeat for the millionth time how she gave up a full ride to the Ivy League to marry my father, and I ought to be a "good woman" and do the same. FML

Today, I attended my school's special invitation-only awards ceremony, relieved that I was getting a much-needed scholarship. I watched all my friends go up and win scholarships. In the end, I only got a certificate for doing well on the PSAT. My whole family showed up for this. FML

Today, I got a large envelope from a college I applied to earlier. My mom, expecting big news, made my family gather round as I opened it. It ended up being a letter of rejection from not just that school, but all three campuses of the state college. FML

My mom got me a pair of sweats from UPenn where she went to school, they're super comfortable so i wear them to school, and everyone asks me if it's PennState, and when I reply, no UPenn, they get confused. Hardly anyone has heard of the Ivy League School. Hah.

#129, LMAO -- "I"m a legacy to Penn" -- million bucks says you don't get in. A friend of mine thought he was a Penn "legacy" too. Wound up at Iowa State for grad school. Don't count your chickens just yet. To the OP, this is not an FML. Penn State is far superior and far more fun than UPenn. And that "Ivy League" education mystique is just that.

I'm actually a grad student at Penn, people in Philadelphia don't know the distinction between us and PSU so don't feel to bad. Penn State is a good school and you'll get way better football than you would here.
