Today, my step-mother threw a surprise party on my acceptance to college. People kept telling me how delightfully shocked and happy they are for me. "UPenn" was written everywhere, when I really got into Penn State. Everyone thinks I'm going to an Ivy League. FML

Today, my mom called and told me I got accepted to my first-choice college. I got really excited and asked her to read me the letter. As she started to read it, she said, "Oops... uh, nevermind." FML

Today, I received my acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious universities in the US, as well as a nice scholarship. I was so proud of myself, I eagerly showed my dad, hoping he would shed a tear or two. His only words were, "Just get a job so you can get the hell out of my house." FML

Today, I excitedly told my mom how I got accepted to the master’s program of my dreams. She decided now would be a good time to proudly repeat for the millionth time how she gave up a full ride to the Ivy League to marry my father, and I ought to be a "good woman" and do the same. FML

Today, I attended my school's special invitation-only awards ceremony, relieved that I was getting a much-needed scholarship. I watched all my friends go up and win scholarships. In the end, I only got a certificate for doing well on the PSAT. My whole family showed up for this. FML

Today, I got a large envelope from a college I applied to earlier. My mom, expecting big news, made my family gather round as I opened it. It ended up being a letter of rejection from not just that school, but all three campuses of the state college. FML

Penn State is much better than UPenn. I go to PSU. It is great. You will love it. Football games are a blast.

haha dude don't knock PSU. I go here!! Unless you're going into law this is probably a better choice. Plus we have a prestigious business college anyway. Might as well save the money and have 100x the fun. oh btw #13 PENN STATE

Do you guys live in PA? I think that's a pretty bad screwup if your stepmom doesn't know the difference between Penn State and University of Pennsylvania. She should know better if you live in the state. But on the other hand, I hope you're thrilled that you're at least going to Penn State! I'm a junior there right now in nursing and I absolutely love it! :D I understand why this is an FML though, especially since you say they were shocked. Make your stepmom apologize if you two are together and talking to people about college in the future.
