Today, my teacher, who's Irish, called me insensitive and stupid for imitating her accent. I'm Filipino and my parents immigrated to Ireland where I was born, and then we moved to Canada when I was 14. Her response to my explanation? "Bullshit." FML

Nobody deserves that, get your parents or principal involved... That will teach her a lesson!

Show her that you can build a nail bomb from household ingredients and then burn a Union Jack. That should prove it.

Parent teacher conference on her ass. Now that's bullshit.

Put yourself in the teacher's shoes: Think about a Filipino teacher in Canada encountering a white student speaking with a Filipino accent. What would your initial reaction be?

My reaction would be less ignorant. There are actually white people who grew up in the Philippines. I certainly wouldn't assume that someone *couldn't* have a particular accent based on their ethnicity. Dont hate. Appreciate.

You would like to think your initial reaction would be less ignorant but, really, how many people of Filipino descent are there in Canada that speak with an Irish accent? The teacher's initial reaction may have been one of surprise rather than ignorance.

If that were the case, the teacher's reaction to the OP's explanation wouldn't be "bullshit".

A well-adjusted person may react with surprise initially but then accepts reasonably plausible explanations that help to explain what he/she was surprised about. Sure, the teacher may be surprised that a Filipino in Canada has an Irish accent but when the student explains why he has an Irish accent, the teacher would accept that explanation, if she were a normal person.

Maybe the teacher knew she was wrong, but she was too proud to admit it. When dealing with occidental people, you have to let them 'save face'. It's their culture, you have to respect that.

Actually it's people from East Asia who are more concerned with saving face. In any case, "saving face" is not an excuse to verbally abuse a student for a reason that the teacher, according to your hypothetical situation, knows is not legitimate.

Psh how about if ur filipino don't go running around mocking accents from a country you may have been born in but is not in ur blood. how about since I'm irish I'll mock some fillies. Feel good about yourself? Knobs.

You say that and you have sadist in ur name. Right. Sorry normal people aren't as politically correct as ur fine self.

Tell her that was you in the Starburst commercial. She's probably too stupid to tell the difference between Filipino and Korean. (Yes, I know it was a Scottish accent and not Irish)

Insecure teachers. Those can be a real pain in the a$$; people in a position of power over you who think you have nothing better to do than go 'round insulting them.

If I were you I would complain to principal. She must be very ignorant if she doesn't believe your explanation. I have accent too and some people amuse me when they say: how come you still have accent after 22 years?

Buy her a pint of Guiness and all will be forgotten.

Or a pint of Tullamore Dew. lol
