Today, one of my co-workers invited me to a cookout at her house with some other people from my new job. She said to wear my suit. Assuming she had a pool, I showed up in a bikini, only to find everyone else wearing business attire and staring at me like I had lost my mind. FML

Why would they be wearing business suits to a cookout? Who does that?

Not so much an FML, you should have asked her to specify. You'll be made fun of, and laughed at about it later.. I suggest when that time comes make a snazzy comment like "Well, I stood out and I had the best outfit there. Always expect me to make an entran (e(insert wink he) e)" Don't dwell on it too much, it'll drive you insane.

It's probably a regional thing with the suit=swimming suit. No one where I live actually says "swimsuit" or "bathing suit," we all say suit or bikini. Tbh, if she said suit and it was a cookout, I would have thought bathing suit/bikini/w.e also. Were you wearing anything over your bikini though? Because if you weren't that's just dumb. and #42, some companies do have outings where they are around pools or beaches and everyone goes swimming.

Who tells females to "wear a suit." Sorry, I don't own any suits. I own dress pants, skirts, and nice tops. Completely different. I would have assumed the same thing, although I probably would have asked around first.

I dont know if suit means bathing suit in my mind, but even if it does in someone else's mind, who decides to go without a coverup?

Who tells everyone to wear business suits to a cookout? Tbh I see where she's coming from wearing a bikini, although I probably would have asked her to specify what kind of suit. #40- My mom's work has cookouts all of the time and they don't have to wear their work attire to them. That seems kind of ridiculous.

To the whole Swim suit, buisness suit thing... people use different words in different places. My friend from Michigan would say 'Pop' for soda, but here in Texas we've grown up to call it 'coke' and 'soda' I still think she should have said either buisness suit, or swim suit to avoid confusion. Either way, I still stick to what I said before about not taking it to hard.. these things happen.

Who wears a business suit to a cook out...? I would've probably worn a swimsuit had I been in your position, too.

To the people wondering why the OP wasn't wearing something over her bikini, I'm sure she was wearing some kind of swim suit coverup. She probably just wrote "showed up in a bikini" for comical effect. I've been to some cookouts where people dressed up a little. But still.. who the hell wears a business suit to a cookout?

eh, at least it wasn't a halloween costume, like in the movie Legally Blonde they invite her to a party and say it's a costume party, she dresses up as a sluttly rabbit and get embarrased. So it's better to be in a bikini than dressing up like something your not lol

Next time, Wear a suit over your bikini. :D

If you were smart, wouldn't you have at least showed up in clothes with a bikini underneath?
