I know a few Christians who fast every once in a while. But it's not as common as it used to be. Also the Bible talks a lot about fasting.

The good times that rant of yours was such bullshit. You had so many stereotypes, assumptions, hypocracy, and statistics in there that I don't really know where to begin. The good times: I tried to understand your rage against religions and their believers and even your tendency to think that religion has caused disasters and wars at all times. You claim that atheists are much more peaceful and not stupid? Well I think that you yourself is a beautiful example to an atheist 'belief' itself. you've managed to point out certain negativities from all the big religions in the world, thought you understood them without the context it's presented in and you use it to prove your point? Your choice of words and way of texting gives an authentic picture of what kind if a person you really are. Without hesitation you claimed to have known how stupid the whole world is because they believe in a certain power, God or holy unicorns for that sake but still haven't been able to prove why people shouldn't believe in anything as though you're a believer yourself. You don't know much about the devotion and love one can truly have for a bigger power. Religion is often about having hope and being at peace by the help of a power you find trustworthy. These are feelings you can't put upon anyone from childhood and if it happened to you I may say that's not being religious at all and has nothing to do with the true meaning of believing. Yes religion has been used as a reason to wars for decades but I really think that you should get your facts straight. If we take the crusades as an example it was all an political game - all the powers of the world wanted to rule over these holy places and take economically advantage of the surroundings. Religion was used as an excuse for gathering soldiers and fighters as ones belief can be personal and so close to ones heart that it can drag you to almost anything. This can also explain how suicide bombers are forced into these actions. All in all can't I see the main reason to your hate against these purified religions as it's not the religions but the followers who haven't been able to understand the truth and the real religion. But then again it must be hard to be forced to have a certain religion without being able to understand the beauty in it. I feel sorry for you :)

It is nearly impossible to go 7 days without water. Although, there have been people who have gone a long stretch without water, but you have to figure in temperature. The body loses I think 2 liters of water per day when the temperature is neither freezing cold or boiling hot. When you add in things such as humidity and high heat that number doubles. Since it's summer, it's hot and humid. A person can't go sunrise to sunset without water for a long period of time. OP has obviously had something to drink, even though there's a slight possibility he could be alive after 7 days, there's not way he could write this FML or think clearly. Edit: Fasting isn't about dieting. It's about cleansing the body.

thanks for reiterating my point although I'd like to add that they actually do go without water from about 4am until 6pm, although if the weather is that hot I'm sure god could forgive them for needing water. but most people go the whole day with out it! hot or no hot.

49, the OP is allowed to drink after the sun sets and before it rises. If the sun rises at 6:00 am and sets at 7:00 pm (for example), that is only 13 hours. So it's not like they went 7 full days without water.

FFML, going completely without water for an extended period is where miracles and faith step in, as I understand it. I've never gotten much out of fasting food personally, so I wouldn't do it myself. I'd never recommend that anyone else do it, either. However, I don't doubt that it can be done theoretically, as I believe in both obviously divine miracles, and the subtler miracle of the mind-body connection. Faith (spiritual or not) within one's mind can achieve the seemingly impossible in one's body. That's a pretty well-recorded fact.
