Seems to me that the path of least resistance is just accepting what you're told; not "rocking the boat," so to speak. A lot of mostly-christian communities tend to shun (or at least ignore) known nonbelievers, which can be difficult to deal with. Yes, I am glad that the majority of you don't take everything literally...anymore. But you did for quite a number of years (the crusades, the inquisition, the burning of great libraries, etc.), and among the non-christian community it will take quite a while for those scars to heal completely. And anyone with half a brain can see that you're not deranged cultists. It's just that the actions of your more...let's say, overly motivated, brothers in Christ can make it seem that way sometimes.

I've been quite careful to avoid grouping ALL christians together. For example, my own mother is a devout presbyterian, and I'd hardly lump her in with the hatred-spewing nutcases I dislike so much. Ahh, quite to the contrary. I do believe there is a god, but not as most people believe it to be. A force truly possessed of the power required to create all that exists - and of the wisdom to use that power responsibly - would not be limited to such petty human concepts as anger and jealousy.
