Today, the kids I teach informed me that I had spelled my name incorrectly on the board. I looked at it and assured them that I had spelled it correctly. I'm 22 and a graduate student, they're six and mentally challenged. Guess who was right? FML

Today, I got back the essay I wrote about how my country's education system is fucked. At one point, I made a spelling mistake. My teacher wrote a note about it, basically calling me illiterate, and telling me to pay attention in school instead of whining about it. She misspelled "school". FML

@ 12 I totally lol'd. And sad thing, is I've done the same thing, but, on a test paper. Luckily there were no other kids in my class with a name even similar to mine. I have a habit of speed reading or writing when I'm working on something, so I tend to.. Well.. I've skipped over entire word phrases, missed letters, misused letters, etc.. But on a chalkboard? Dude, when mentally challenged kids are correcting your spelling, you need someone to pop up from the background and go 'here's your sign'.

Just because they're mentally challenged doesn't mean they're stupid. Quite the opposite really. They have huge huge memories. Always show them that their opinions mean something and don't shoot them down because you freaken think you're smarter.

NEVER take a special ed. kid for granted. i know a lot who can beat me silly at sports, math, etc. they all have some genius to make up for their handicap.
