Welcome to my reality. The police in my town confiscated a friend's slingshot a few years back. They called it "the seizure of an undocumented lethal weapon". Honestly, police officers have too much time on their hands.

This happend to me a while back. Apparently one of the people driving thought I was a sniper and has a flashback of when he was in the army.

The police need your permission to search your house without a warrant? Couldn't you have just shown them the pointer, and explained what happened? For what its worth, your "paranoid" neighbors are the same neighbors who will call the police when you stop getting your mail, or when suspicious people are around your neighborhood. Think of them as a blessing and a curse.
