Today, trying to do something nice for my brother, I filled up his truck's gas tank. I didn't realize until too late that it's a diesel. FML

I guess now he would have preferred an empty tank

Gasoline is terrible for a diesel it's hard everything as it doesn't lubricate nearly as well and diesel is terrible for a gas cause it's hard on all the seals but usually you can just drain the tank and flush the system and you'll be alright

look on the bright side you didn't ruin your own truck!

I don't see how you got the nozzle inside it to do this. The are different sizes to keep this from happening

It's a truck. The majority of them are diesel. Pay attention YDI

Thats why no one drives my truck!! That would be like signing your own death warrant! No good deed goes unpunished as they say...

#56 If that is your truck in your picture it is bad ass. :)

Yeah, you don't know much. Diesel engines use glow plugs, not spark plugs, by heating, then compressing the fuel, you get the reaction. In a gasoline engine, you need the spark and compression to create the reaction. Putting gasoline in a Diesel engine causes it to burn at much higher temperature causing severe engine damage. My dad worked at a UPS plant where a guy filled a truck up with gas, and flames shot out the grill. Ruining a Diesel engine is so costly too. But with proper maintenance they can run for as much as 500,000+ miles. I'm a proud owner of a TDI Jetta :) The things wonderful when it's not suffering electrical issues.

It's the thought that counts. I know someone who drove a diesel Jetta with gas in the tank for a few minutes. He had it drained and cleaned. Mind you it doesn't always work, takes a while and can be costly.

Well OP, it's the thought that counts and the correct fuel type.
