Today, while at a funeral for a distant family member, I was giving my condolences to the family. When one of them asked how I was doing, I replied with, "I'm still alive!", which is one of my standard responses due to being a cashier and being asked that question a hundred times a day. FML

Poor choice of words under the circumstances, although you meant no harm

Hahaha nice one. Maybe think it through a bit more next time before you respond.

Family: "How are you doing?" ...5 minutes later.... OP: "Good?"

It's so second nature for cashiers though. Like when someone walks away from me in real life I occasionally say "thanks, have a good day" on accident and they look at me like a freak.

Lol well on the bright side at least it was a distant relative

I'm sure they'll be a bit more distant to you now.

Not the best choice of words be at least you didn't mean it

well OP at least its not a bored to death awnser ;)

Next time engage the Brain before speaking. I hope they didn't take it too badly

Not so weird. I've heard it, and I use I'm here. Customers ask how are you, but most don't care.

Sweden: 1: Hi 2:Hi 1: That will be ..... kronor 2: Thanks (thx for letting me buy stuff??) 1: Thank you!

Guess Fml aren't big on the enter button after posting..

Not that strange. I've given that answer some days bc really- customers don't care about your day. they just feel they should ask you since you ask them. if you reply honestly that your day has been complete crap they just look at you like you just kicked their cat or something. And unfortunately some of us actually HAVE to ask how the customer is doing bc it shows 'personal interest in them as a customer.'

Bleh :P we have to ask people to or we can get fired due to "secret shoppers". Have to talk to everyone within 5 feet.

It's not a big deal unless you happened to be propped against the casket when you said it.
