If he's the oldest at 3, there's at least one more child. Speaking from experience, it's possible to watch 2 kids at once.

Not 24/7, only the amount that the OP was hired to watch the child. If it's more than she can handle, she's not right for the job. A ruined carpet means anything else could have also happened while the child wasn't supervised better. :P
