Today, while buying paint, I began to help an elderly woman working to lift some heavy boxes. She told me what a nice young lady I was. Then her boss came over, screamed at her for being lazy and fired her. She cried. So did I. FML

If I were you, I would report this to the union where this boss is working for and sue him! You just helping someone an elderly woman who can't lift that well as some of her co-workers...what the hell does that boss expect from her? Do lifts until she broke her back or her hips? Absolutely not! But FYL OP.

then again, and I'm not saying the situation doesn't suck, because it really does.... but don't go and apply for a job you're not capable of. if you're an 80 year old, 100 lb woman and you apply for a job at a hardware or paint store, moving boxes and carrying heavy cans of paint is going to be expected. just like you wouldn't see a body builder working at the Clinique makeup counter giving makeovers, don't set yourself up to be in these situations. I really do feel horrible for both her and op though /: the manager is an ass /:

That heartless bastard. Why can't someone help someone else without any consequences? Seems like random acts of kindness always go wrong.

And did you even try to talk him out of it?

#145 This is true. But maybe she was working there for a much longer period of time. Like where I work there was an old lady who recently passed away but she worked there since she was young. And one of my managers works there who started working there since high school and now she is married and has a son. But the point being, the boss is a major poopy head.
