Today, while on my first ever date, I ordered a really hot curry, hoping to impress my date. "Yeah," I said smoothly, "not everyone can handle spicy food." When I took a bite, my eyes watered, my mouth burned, and I had to plead for water in between moaning like a dying baboon. FML

I didn't know being able to eat spicy food was something that can be considered impresive.

YDI. Don't bite off more than you can chew just to impress someone.

Women (or men) don't care about whether you can eat spicy food. Honestly, if my date ordered a hot curry, I wouldn't be thinking 'wow, that's impressive', I'd be thinking 'ah, he likes curry'

Witty banter and a fully functioning tongue are more impressive.

Why do guys always try to impress the girl with something they know they can't handle? I mean really just show them a good time

Nobody is impressed by you ordering spicy food

She will be really impressed later when you have diarrhea and your ass feels like it's on fire.

Curry is not a good idea for a first date. Not a good make out food

So true. My boyfriend loves spicy food and ordered curry on our first date. I made the mistake of kissing him goodnight. I can't take spicy food at all, so my reaction was much like OP's

I went on one date with a guy like that once. The best part of the evening was having a chuckle with the waitress over his stupidity.

I'm curious as to why you thought eating spicy food would impress her, but I hope the rest of your date went better.
