Today, while watching a family movie, my mother made every effort to make sure I covered my eyes during a kissing scene. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise, since she still forces me to put my phone in her room every night as she makes me go to bed at 8:30 PM. FML

Some parents need to let their children grow up, honestly.

As Pink Flotd put it: "(...)You'll always be baby to me".

Oh I'm 17 and my parents still do that to me! Do worry it doesn't get better....

Is there nothing you can do for more independence?

A friend of mine is 22 and still dealing with this. She's moved out and her mother will show up unannounced to stay with her for weeks at time, to "make sure she's adjusting." At 17, when this friend stayed with me for a night, she was honestly shocked when, I decided to drive to a nearby convenience store and pick up some Dr. Pepper. I let my father know where we were going and all he said was, "Bring me back a Butterfinger. And drive safe." A perfectly normal, age-appropriate exchange, yet all I heard from her the entire trip was how her mom would never have allowed that. She's been trying to talk to her mom ever since, but her mom always tries to turn it around and make her sound ungrateful for having a loving parent.

I think we all know that is not love... Or at least not in a conventional parent-child form. More like a drillseargent-newbie relationship...

You sound like my dad, #122. Only his phrasing was "That's not love, that's insanity."

No this deserves an answer op, how old are you?

I have the exact. Same. Problem. My parents also track my phone and they check my messages every day...

YDI for not being mature enough to confront her about this type of shit.
