Today, while watching a family movie, my mother made every effort to make sure I covered my eyes during a kissing scene. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise, since she still forces me to put my phone in her room every night as she makes me go to bed at 8:30 PM. FML

Oh my and I thought my mom was too much I'm sorry OP:1

Yes there is a fine line between control and being loving and wanting to protect I think. It is hard to know which it is, possibly both.

I would say that YLS, but you should be old enough to disregard and reject her overbearing tendencies. Unless you're – I dunno – 15 or living at home as an adult with no other options, YDI.

It doesn't matter how old you are. If you have to live at home and your parents are control freaks, you cannot change their mind or go against them. Or, rather, you can try, but it won't work.

my parents are exactly the same. I have to charge my phone in their room every night at 9:00. my friends always wonder why im not on social media late at night like they are, it's so embarrassing to tell them this.

man, it isn't like it's your fault. my friends know how my rules are and they just go "dang, that sucks" and move on.

I wonder how u posted this at 11 AM! :D

Don't worry, give it 6 more years and you can legally move out.

I got my first phone my freshman year of high school. I'm now starting college and have to do the same thing except I leave it on the kitchen counter, which is right next to their room...

Exact same happened to me today but I'm 16 :/

You have a good mom OP:) remember this when you are 30+

Um... No... OP's mom is not a good mom. It does not do good to shelter your kids. Would you want your kids to be clueless in life because you sheltered them or ready for life because you prepared them and DIDN'T shelter them? Sure, the mom means well, but that doesn't necessarily mean good mom

I really thought my grandma was tough on me and old fashioned in her rules, but even though my bedtimes have always been overly strict, they've at least been mostly reasonable for my age. 8:30 was for before I was ten...
