I hope your management grows a backbone! I could see them making it look like you got in trouble, but actually send you home? That's crazy lol.
Yeah she should've known, but she didn't. It's not nice to make a customer feel stupid...even if they're reeeaaallly stupid.
I work in a Deli so I understand all the stupid questions customers ask. Kid you not, someone asked us if our chicken lunch meat tasted like chicken. Questions like these want to be answered with a smart ass remark but alas our tongues must be held :x
While the customers question was stupid, dealing with that kind of thing kind of goes with the territory. If you are going to work in retail you have to be polite, it's part of your job.
One of the main reasons I don't want to work in customer service. The customer is NOT always right.
That was cool!!!!! Good on you were telling her like it is. Stupid customers. They are not always right. In fact most of the time they are wrong and your boss should have made you employee of the month cause that was funny. Well it looks like the icecream shop just opened up a new career pathway for you as a comedian.
When I was in retailing, a chuckle, smile or smirk under those circumstances would have been seen as belittling the customer. I'd have got my pay docked for that - or worse. You should have remained absolutely deadpan, explained layer by layer what the cake was made of and then had a good laugh in the staff room in your tea break. Sent home early, hopefully lesson learned.
