Today, while working at my local supermarket, a customer threw a turkey at me because we "should have bigger ones." FML

Dear God, most turkeys weight like twenty pounds. I'm impressed by the customer's strength. I also blame them for buying their turkey on Thanksgiving. Stupid customer.

Ah, Thanksgiving. That holiday makes people do some crazy shit.

Instead of playing football on thanksgiving, play toss the turkey? In a non sexual way if course.

throw one back and tell her she should have come earlier

Her? I believe by default the male gender is used. But whatever, just pointing out we don't know the customer's gender.

According to a survey I read, 35 people die from turkey thrown at them compared to 20 people dying in shark attacks! Now that's messed up.

Bitch, catch your own turkey then.

Everybody wants "bigger ones" ;)

Were you selling the organic ones? Your average turkey is a freak of science. They're breed so that their breasts are so big that they can't even mate anymore. It's really pretty ridiculous the way we raise them.

Not only selective breeding.. Mass anti-biotics as well. Also hormones and conditioning through generations of "meant for food" diet.

I was going to say the same thing. People have gone from thinking "bigger is better" to thinking "bigger" is the only criteria for good food. Animals and plants are selected, raised, and grown on the basis of being bigger in volume and in number, while completely disregarding, taste, nutrition, environmental impact, basically anything other than "bigness" in any sense of the word. This problem, of course, is the worst in America. It's amazing to me how much tastier and healthier the food is in poor countries that are supposed to be much worse off than America. It's a shame so many people will never get the chance to see how much better it could be.

Even if you believe they're "meant for food", you still have to ask yourself - why are we only concerned about the size and number of the food? Why are we not improving anything else? Generally, the better the animal was treated and fed, the tastier and more nutritious it is. Too bad the food industry doesn't give a crap about that. All they care about is profit, and the more you keep consuming the frankenfood it pushes out, the more you contribute to the disappearance of real food from the country, and the planet. It's just something to think about. I'm a vegetarian myself, but that is solely my choice. If you do eat meat, at least make an effort to eat real meat.

Hey, it's not all bad. Thanks to genetic modifications I've been able to breed a turkey with a JesterHead, hence my profile picture.

Someone listens to Freakonomics Radio. They said almost all turkeys are products of artificial insemination. My favorite part of that story was that someone had to "work with" the toms to secure their "contribution." I was waiting for the turkey jerky joke, but it never came.

Why are people writing books here..

The problem is modern food isn't very healthy anymore and the environmental impact of the way we produce food now is huge. Then since we have animals literally living in their own shit, they get pumped full of antibiotics so they stay alive. This in turn leads to antibiotic-resistant super bacteria that can turn into a human health epidemic. I'm guessing you're not very educated on the topic.

I think Norway might be a bit ahead of the US. Over here we subsidize crops like corn and soybeans which are then used to create junk food. So all in all we basically subsidize junk food. When you feed corn to cows like we do, not only is the meat a lot less nutritious, but a large amount of E. Coli builds up in their guts. And these are just the side effects that are going to affect humans. There's so many more that affect the animals themselves. Food might be cheap here, but it's not being priced honestly due to the subsidies, and the other costs that we incur with these insane policies cause costly damage to the environment and human health. It's probably more expensive now than it's ever been.

122 - Food is cheap here only because it's not really food anymore. The real food is shit expensive, especially compared to the food in some countries that are supposedly behind the US. Even the cheapest stuff there is still actually food. It's a clever little way of making us believe we've got the best here, when we really don't. At least not in the food department, and that just happens to be one of the most important ones.

111, if you think these comments are books, you either don't know what a book is, or haven't read one before.

You all need to watch Food, inc. if you haven't already, it'll change your view of food in america, it's really gross what they do to animals =[

That's why I tried to kill a wild one, failed, *sob*
