Toxic workplace

By schnegg - This FML is from back in 2016 but it's good stuff - Switzerland

Today, the firm I work at informed all the employees about our annual staff trip. So, we're going to a tomato festival and everything is already planned and booked. I'm allergic to tomatoes. FML

How bad is your allergy? I'm sure you don't have to go, especially considering your circumstances but maybe you could go without touching or eating anything there? Then again that would be pretty boring I guess :/

Am I the only one wondering why a tomato festival is a thing? And why a company would choose to take their staff there on their annual outing? Allergy or not, that sounds incredibly dull.

Who knows? Perhaps there's an annual tomato throwing competition

Our area has a yearly pumpkin festival as we are the unofficial pumpkin capitol of the country. Libby's pumpkin products are made here. Perhaps, in OP's case, their area is known for tomatoes and has a similar festival. (Also, yes; we host the annual Punkin Chunkin' contest here too.)

#18, there is actually a very famous annual tomato festival in Bunol (Valencia), Spain; it is called La Tomatina, and attracts many visitors from around the world.

if you're staying at a hotel, just stay in the room or venture out on your own and explore away from tomatoes

When its tomatino festival its not a rule that you have to eat tomatoes. You can play with them.

That is unfortunate OP. The firm should not have arranged such a trip without speaking with their employees. Unfortunately since they booked everyone, I doubt they would cancel the trip. However, they cannot force you to go or penalize you in anyway. Hopefully you bosses are understanding/kind and give you an extra vacation or bonus ...

Awh man, that sucks!! Tomatoes are so damn delicious. ):

Just don't eat or touch any. Unless you have a severe tomato scent allergy too, you'll be fine. But to be sure, you should likely mention that too the boss. And bring a doctor's note to ball up your claim.
