Today, I asked my girlfriend's father if I could marry his daughter. He smiled, shook my hand, and said "No. Now get out of my house." FML

At which point you turn around, say "Thankyou for your advice...." and you marry her anyway.

Propose in spite of him. In front of him would be better. When she hugs you out of sheer joy, make the devil horns and wiggle your tongue at her dad.

haha forget about the dad. she'll appreciate the fact that yu had the guts to ask. i say marry her anyway :)

Are you sure he wasn't joking? :P Also, like people have said, if you really love her, just ignore him and propose to her anyway. Whilst it's nice to have parental support from both sides, it's not essential.

Most people don't think that way. A lot of people would find it formal to ask the father's permission.

He might have been joking but I find his sense of humour quite specific... However, if he was being serious, he could have responded in a more polite way. But eh, that doesn't change the meaning of his answer.

hahahaha I was thinking the same and ur picture is epic

My mother expected for my brother in law to ask to marry my sister.... She got angry when he didn't.

yea, you better just go with the get married anyways and move to another state plan. that way you and her can have an good relationship. every year or so you guys visit or they visit you and have very tense, awkward conversations. it's the best way.
