Today, I found an unfamiliar ring in my purse. Thinking it was fake, I gave it to a little girl. Thanks to my mother, I later found out that the ring was my grandmother's and it was made of gold and had a real ruby. My mother added that my grandmother trusted me to keep it in our family. FML

Why in heaven's name did somebody just stick it in your purse without telling you?

You probably should have at least checked with somebody before assuming it was fake

But why was your first though to give it away...

if i found something in my bag that wasnt mine, i would be asking people if they knew anything about it.before giving it away, hopefully you can get the ring back. just explain that its a family ring and you didnt know, and give the child a cheap ring in place of the other ring.

Why wouldn't you just put the ring aside and ask those who are/were around you and your purse recently whether or not they knew about the ring? Either way, I would have looked further into it before just giving it or throwing it away, just in case.

Ok, 1. Nobody decided to tell you they were gonna put an expensive ring in your purse? 2. Also, NVR assume its fake, hold on to it and ask around

Well maybe she should have told you earlier?

You know what happens when you assume....

considering you didn't know about it, I think it's almost fair that you gave it away. Your mother, or your grandmother (assuming she's still alive) should have told you the ring was there, and made you aware of its value.

this makes no sense. why would your mother stick it in your purse and not tell you. and didn't you wonder where it came from?
