Unfair

Today, after having finally summoned the nerve to report a guy at my workplace who has been sexually harassing me for months, I got a phone call from my boss. He said that there was nothing he could do about it, because the guy "wouldn't confess." FML

Leaving may be your best bet :(

Sucks for you. Report him to a higher authority then. Or get him caught in the act.

JENSEN v. EVELYTH MINES A class action case from Minnesota. Employers that do not do anything about sexual harassment are legally liable. Find the book called "Class Action" and have your boss read the last two chapters where the circuit court declares that.

There has to be proof of the harassment for the boss to fire him. Think about it if you didn't need proof you could get anyone fired just by saying it even if they didn't. Petty but it would happen all the time.

An investigation and following up on sexual harassment policy is considered doing something about it. I really doubt it was a case of "he didn't confess so we are going to sit on our hands" but rather he didn't confess so the action taken isn't perceived as anything substantial by the victim.

Don't bring forth a complaint unless you have evidence.

And be a little pussy and take crap from a perv the whole time?

this is why I hate this world. Women should have stronger rights.

Rights? I dont think rights have anything to do with this. What does a guy have that women dont when it comes to rights and how does it apply?

Have you ever heard of discrimination? Example: men in the same position as women still get paid more. And regarding to Johnny's comment, I think (and I may be wrong) he meant women's right to not have to put up with sexual harassment and how it is wrong for a woman to have to endure that. Which I agree, and as a woman who has been sexually harassed in the workforce myself, I can certainly say that it is very common and occasionally it IS ignored.

Stronger rights in what way? That they make a claim and we immediately take her side over the male? No, that exists, it's called family court.

You know that women make up more of the work force than men? You know that women make 98% of what men do? Women bitch and complain about equality when they have absolutely nothing to complain about. You could look at a girl the wrong way and she could file sexual harassment, you don't need more rights, you need to learn to work for your money and stop bitching until you get it. Men are more educated and more willing to work slave labour jobs and work much harder for money, any half decent girl can make a killing as a bartender, waitress, or pole dancer for all I care. Do hardly any work, get more jobs than men with less education, and make 98% of the amount of money. Life must be so hard.

You show a remarkable reluctance to cite your sources. Here, let me help: last November, The Guardian newspaper (UK) reports that the pay gap is at an all time low, and that women in the 20-30 age group are actually making more than men (just why this is so is open to debate - could be positive discrimination, could be the fact that most women believe that they are at their most attractive at that age (opening up a whole new can of worms), could be coincidence. However, the BBC reported last August that gender inequality in pay between managers has actually widened. Google "men women pay gap" - it's not that hard. As to further education, according to the International Business Times in December 2011, more women go to college than men, making that assertion of yours a falsehood...yet, according to the Wall Street Journal, " at every career stage, men are more likely to advance than women.” And giving "pole dancer" as an acceptable career path for all women makes you look like a cretin. I agree that we don't know enough about the story to make a judgment, but if OP is made uncomfortable, there's an issue of some kind. Sorry to hear of your troubles, OP. Isn't their a colleague who could corroborate your story?

Our rights are just fine, thanks! Why does everyone keep saying its unfair or sue?! You think someone could just be fired because someone else CLAIMED they sexually harassed them with no proof? Nada. People would get fired all the time for not having done any thing at all, and THAT is UNFAIR and then their boss could be SUED. Therefore no rights have been violated. OP, this sucks. Likely he'll feel like he can do more now because he'll feel he's gotten away with it. Get something that can record the situation, like maybe your cell. Oh, and several reliable witnesses

Women aren't the only ones who get sexually assaulted in the workplace... Men do too.

Whoa, is this a joke? You are one bitter and misinformed dude.

Keep a list of harassment incidences and what is said during them. Continue to bring it up to HR. They legally have to investigate.

What this guy did is inexcusable, but why on earth did it take you months to report him? At the first ass grab or the first "Hey baby, wanna borrow my special pencil?" you should have been in your boss' office taking this asshole down.

Because clearly that would have worked perfectly basked on the OPs current situation. They probably didn't report it at first for fear that a) no one would believe them, b) They would say it was their fault (I.E. You shouldn't dress so sexy, wear make-up, etc.) or c) It started out as more of a mild annoyance but escalated to full blown harassment.

Chibi, I must disagree with you. You report it each and every time it happens. Your comment explains why this crap is still so pervasive. People let it go when they shouldn't, and that's why it persists.

I get that. However, I have been in the situation of having to report sexual harassment and the first thing that happened to me was that they tried to turn it around and make it my fault because I used to wear make-up to work. My manager actually said to me "Well if you don't want them noticing you then why pretty yourself up." I quit wearing make-up, my coworker kept making comments like "You could suck me in the parking lot anytime", I'd report it, my managers wouldn't do anything and I had witnesses to back me up. I finally just wound up having to quit after six months of that shit. It doesn't always work to report it and it's because of the fear that nothing will happen anyway that people don't bother to report it.
