Welcome to adulthood

Today, I confronted my 18-year-old daughter about her excessively lengthy showers. She said she didn't see the big deal, considering the water "comes free with the house." No dear, it doesn't. FML

Let her pay a bill and then see how she feels about her shower length.

Just do what my mom used to do, bang on the door and yell until she gets out. Or invest in a shower timer.

There's a reason she takes loooong showers.

shes probably just playing with herself in there dont worry..

That moment when you find out something went wrong with your parenting.

If YOU don't teach it to her, how will she know it? They don't teach this in school. Parenting fail. Btw, if you live in NYC, it IS free actually. Tenants don't pay a water charge.

Daughter was talking about water NOT electricity to heat the water.

Ecclesiastes 7:10: "Do not say, "Why were the old days better than these?" For it is not wise to ask such questions." 2500 years ago, it was already cliche to complain about why the "good old days" were so much better, because in all probability they weren't.

It's not about bad parenting. Some children are hard headed and refuse to listen, especially around that age. They think they know it all. No matter how long you try to teach your child, some kids just don't try to get it. That's one thing you can't do anything about and just have to let them learn the hard way. They eventually get it. Especially once they see how hard they have to slave to make a living.

Sit her (adult) ass down and show her all the monthly bills for running a house! Figure out what her percentage should be if she was paying her part.
