Welcome to adulthood

Today, I confronted my 18-year-old daughter about her excessively lengthy showers. She said she didn't see the big deal, considering the water "comes free with the house." No dear, it doesn't. FML

Let her pay a bill and then see how she feels about her shower length.

Just do what my mom used to do, bang on the door and yell until she gets out. Or invest in a shower timer.

She probably fears judgement about masturbating and hides in the shower.

When i did that my mom took my laptop away... It was probably for the best...

Shes 18 and doesn't know about water bills?

I don't know about you, but for us, water might as well be free. It's between $50 and $100, depending on the season, quarterly. If someone takes an extra-long shower, it might be a couple cents. No one worries about it. Is this not the case elsewhere, and are we just lucky?

Turn the hot water off when she is taking too long?

By any chance was she quoting '8 Simple Rules' and the reference just bypassed you?

well I could see who she would think that. I'm assuming she do's not pay the bills. I remember when I was 10 that I didn't know that you had to wash your private area in the shower. but yea she is old enough to were she should know that.

Your daughter is giving me the "definitely not prepared for the real world" vibe. You need to start layin' it on her now before she's so unequipped for independence, she'll never be on her own.
