i think the real question here is; why aren't you that upset..? "she actually almost cried" indicates that you didnt, since she seemed to care more than you.

My mom cried when me and my bf broke up once, moms just dont wanna see their sons/daughters hurt thats all. Also she could have really liked OP's ex, which was some of the reason in my case.
