That is why you should have stopped to think about why there was a cat in your house before you put it outside.
Okay OP I think you should contact your sister immediately and tell her. She might be angry but this cat is more important. She might have an idea of where it would go. It also might be microchipped. Then I would recommend pinning up posters. Good luck.
Considering you said it woke you up, I can forgive you for not remembering right away that it was your sister's, since you were probably still half asleep when you put it outside.
That doesn't excuse not stopping to think where it came from, though. Even if it had somehow come in from outside, OP should have checked to see if any of his neighbors were missing a cat.
Yes, lets wake the neighbors at the ass crack of dawn and ask if they lost a cat
Okay, then keep the cat until a reasonable time. It's incredibly stupid to go "oh this isn't my cat" and toss it outside when it's obviously a pet.
Contact shelters and leave food out also check your sisters house. Also tell your neighbors and leave up posters. And tell your sister she may be mad but better from you than a shelter calling saying that they had her cat.
*looks at location* Yeah that cat is long gone.
Also snakes be causes dumbasses release their exotic snakes all the time.
Cats are pretty smart, so it could have gone back to your sister's house if it's close enough. Leave a bowl of food outside your house in case it's still around. And remember, cats like to curl up in warm places so check around the wheels of your car, or any little corners or nooks that it could have gotten into.
You should probably try looking harder. Maybe go outside, instead of just looking out the front door?

So some strange pet comes into your house and you nonchalantly kick it out. No confusion, no wondering where it came from, no looking for original owners, etc... Don't own pets.
Guess the cats out of the bag now...or rather out of the house....I'll see myself out
