Wish you were here

Today, I listened to a voicemail from my mom about how she misses me and can't wait to see me when I get back from vacation. Thinking she hung up, my mother then had a conversation with my aunt about how quiet the house is without me and how she'd be blessed if I didn't come home. FML

Um, because OP was on vacation, doeesn't mean that they paid for it. They might have went with an academic group, or with a friend... FYL OP for what your mom said...

It's so annoying when people on here start bashing anyone 18 or over for still living with their parents. Just because the law in this country says that parents don't HAVE to support their kids after that age does not mean everyone should automatically be ready to move out. Also a person's frontal lobe(front part of the brain that helps us make rational decisions) isn't even done growing completely at that age, so it's okay to be living with your parents even until your early 20s as long as you're all mature enough to respect each other. To the original poster, I'm sure she misses you but probably does like the little bit of quiet and free time to herself. Everyone likes to be alone at some point so consider this as her vacation for herself and don't take it seriously.

@wordgirl (can't directly reply from an iPhone): Oh please. If you think your parents don't ever lie to you or mislead you, you are quite naive. Moms deserve to enjoy peace and quiet when their kids are away. They also don't deserve a shitfit from kids who can't handle the fact that they aren't actually the center of their parents' lives. It's possible to miss your kids and want them home, AND enjoy the time without them and wish it could last longer. My mom made no bones about this when I lived at home, and I grew up just fine, thanks. Grow up.

I think you're missing the fact that OP's mom said she would be happy if OP didn't return. Meaning she doesn't want her daughter back, which is a very cruel thing to hear from a parent. It's very understandable that the parents may want some alone time I totally get that, however the mom saying that she would be happier if her daughter didn't return is plain rude. Next time get your facts straight and read the whole FML before telling someone to grow up.

There such a thing as a loud New Yorker? Who knew?!

How do you know it wasn't planned? And that she wasn't hinting eh? haha

Call her VM when you know she won't answer her phone. Leave a sweet message, tell her you love her, then pretend to hang up. Continue leaving a VM acting like you are talking with with friends and tell them you can't stand your mother, and how she only visits your aunt because the two of them are gay and you feel sorry for both of them.

What a bitch! I say blow up her house. I know a guy... also, a combination sulfur, honey, and saltpeter creates a nice explosion.
